Normally people get confused about doosra and carom ball, because both these deliveries are normally used by off-spinner and both of these deliveries looks like leg spin, turning from leg side to offside. Usually a player can spot the carom ball very easily but picking doosra is hard, it requires a lot of experience, I have seen only experienced players like Kumar sangakkara and virender sehwag pick these deliveries.
The players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Sunil narine and Ajanta mendis are bowlers who usually bowl carom ball. Usually the bowlers who bowl carom ball use their fingers to spin the ball. When you see difference in their bowling fingers you can understand that the bowler is trying to bowl carom ball or slower deliveries. To bowl a carom ball the bowlers mostly use their index finger a lot, so picking carom ball is very much easier.
Doosra is a special delivery the word Doosra means another one; this means the off spinner is going to bowl the off spin which is going to turn in opposite direction. The bowlers who bowl Doosra use their wrist effectively to bowl this special delivery. Picking Doosra is very difficult because most of the player see the seam and revolution of the ball to play cricket. When a player bowls Doosra you cannot spot the delivery because the revolution and seem of the ball looks like normal off spin that’s why even great players like Sachin tendulkar and Alistair cook could not spot the Doosra of the Pakistani spin wizard saeed Ajmal. As the bowlers uses their wrist to bowl Doosra normally Doosra looks like a top spin and bowlers normally bowl these deliveries much quicker than normal ones, as these deliver looks like a top spin the ball bounces higher than normal spin deliveries and reaches the batsman much quicker than he expected. Some of the bowler who bowls Doosra is Saeed Ajmal, Harbhajan Singh, saqlain mustaq, muralitharan and Johan bootha.
Mostly the bowler who bowls these special deliveries are from subcontinent, so to survive from these bowling in sub continent pitch , a batsman must use Rahul dravid batting technique to block the delivery. Usually the batsman from England, Australia and New Zealand usually block the deliveries by keeping their bat and leg close in contact. But this technique can help player to survive in Overseas because the pitch makers usually prepare a non spinning fast track, but these players find difficult to block deliveries in subcontinent because in subcontinent they prepare a flat and spinning tracks.
Players playing in spinning track must bring their bat forward and should not block the ball by keeping the bat and leg in contact, because when you bring the bat forward you can manage to control the ball spinning in both directions. When you block the ball using conventional technique you cannot survive for a long period.Hope this info is useful to everyone.
